Billy Bragg 12" Workers Playtime
Those of you who know me know how much I LOVE this man. I think he's one of THE BEST songwriters ....... ever. This was released in 1988 and I think is still a GREAT album. Most people would know the single which was something different for Billy when you first heard it because it had ........... a band ! The Great Leap Forward is a satirical and insightful song about the joys of being in the music industry all wrapped up in a fantastic melody.
It has lots of other Billy Bragg gems like Must I Paint You a Picture, The Short Answer, Rotting on Remand and the Only One. Sure, gone is the spitting, biting vocals that the early albums had and here we have Billy "singing" with a band, but it shows once again that he can write a pop song as good as anyone and the politics is all still there.
